Welcome to the FromFrom Project
Stories of Migration, Memory & Where We Begin
🧭 What is FromFrom?
FromFrom is a quiet storytelling project by AZ Collab.
It explores the layered experiences of migration, identity,
and what it means to come from somewhere — or many places.
Built through one-on-one conversations, it captures how people talk about origin, movement, and belonging in their own words.
It’s not a campaign. It’s a narrative record.
And a real-time reminder that stories shape how we see ourselves — and each other.
✨ Why It Matters
Migration isn’t just about where we end up.
It’s about what we carry, what we lose, what we rebuild — and how we remember.
FromFrom holds space for those moments:
Family origin stories passed down
Displacement and return, however defined
The emotions, places, and details that don’t always make the map
🧩 A Method in the Making
This project reflects how AZ Collab listens:
Through surveys, structured interviews, layered reflection, and guided conversations — all designed to surface the kind of stories that usually stay in the margins. We blend qualitative data with contextual cues to understand not just what happened, but what it meant.
We’re in pre-production, gathering stories in our first phase.
The goal isn’t to generalize — it’s to understand the nuance behind migration: how it’s remembered, how it’s passed down, and how it continues to shape identity.
🌍 What’s Your Origin Story?
FromFrom is a multi-format migration storytelling project — and this version focuses on personal, family-level journeys.
It explores how movement across borders, cultures, and generations shapes who we are — whether that story began five years ago or five generations back.
This phase of the project uplifts the quieter, often overlooked migrations: stories told around kitchen tables, passed down through recipes, names, traditions, or loss.
Every participant in this version of FromFrom shares their origin story — a personal window into how they or their people came to call this place home.
These stories, in all their complexity, reflect the layered reality of American identity: displacement, opportunity, love, sacrifice, and everything in between.
This isn’t about timelines or documents. It’s about lived memory, intergenerational experience, and the echoes of migration that continue to shape families and communities today.
💛 A Note on Family, Legacy, and Belonging
Not every story begins with a full family tree.
Some journeys include adoption, step-parents, chosen families, or missing links — and that’s part of what makes them meaningful.
Origin isn’t just about blood. It’s also about love, memory, and the people who passed down traditions, meals, language, and values — whether or not they shared DNA.
Some stories center around being raised by someone who chose them, someone who shaped identity through love, culture, or care.
That, too, is an origin story. And FromFrom welcomes it fully.
📌 Stay Tuned
We're just getting started.
FromFrom is evolving — with more stories, more voices, and more ways to experience how migration shapes who we are.
As the project grows, we’ll share new reflections and insights here.
For now, we’re listening, learning, and letting the stories lead.
